To celebrate 50 years since the death of Vaughan Williams (1872 – 1958), and to complement the Festival Ramble over Wenlock Edge in the morning, the tenor Ian Yemm will be performing this special afternoon concert in Much Wenlock’s parish church together with the Bows Quartet and pianist Pam Pickford.

The programme features two works by Vaughan Williams, the much loved On Wenlock Edge with words from A. E. Housman’s poem A Shropshire Lad, and Variations on Aberystwyth. They will also perform Benjamin Britten’s On This Island.

Ian Yemm originates from Shropshire. He completed studies at the joint vocal faculty of the Royal Academy of Music and at the Opera School of the Royal College of Music.

He joined the Glyndebourne Chorus and now sings with the Welsh National Opera for whom he has also taken several principal roles. He is known for his special interest in studying and performing the works of Benjamin Britten.
