Event Details
This year we are pleased and delighted to have the celebrated Shropshire Drama Company perform Romeo and Juliet as our Festival play. This enduring and timeless story will be told using actors both familiar and new to Much Wenlock audiences.
Romeo and Juliet is a powerful play and one of Shakespeare’s most popular. It takes place over five days of summer when the illfated couple meet, fall in love, get married and then both tragically die.
Drawing its power from the passion, violent conflict and contrasts between youth and age, it will take the audience on a fast-paced journey through these emotions.
SDC has cast a talented group of people for this production and is especially happy to introduce some of Shropshire’s younger performers, whose vitality will inject energy, texture and dynamics to the production. The directors, Rosalind Garrard and Joanna Purslow, are thrilled and confident that the beautiful Much Wenlock outdoor setting, enhanced by the Veronese inspired set and traditional costumes, will contribute towards a fabulous spectacle.
The Church Green again provides our venue for what promises to be a great evening. Fully raked seating ensures good views of the stage for everyone and there is plenty of space for picnics beforehand and during the interval. The Festival bar will also be available.
