Welcome to Much Wenlock Festival
I think all will agree that the 2012 Festival was a huge success. The events were all of the highest quality and thoroughly enjoyable. Despite the poor weather over the summer it was a fine night for the Hits from the West End and although the play was affected by rain for three nights we were able to go into Church for those performances.
Like many Festivals this year our budget has been affected due to lower audience attendances, however, the Festival is in the fortunate position of having a strong financial base which will ensure that we will be back in 2014 to give you more entertainment, fun and excellent events to suit all tastes and ages.
The 2012 Festival opened on the 2nd June, the weekend of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a big bang! The Fair on the Saturday was excellent with fun for everyone and whilst it poured the next day for the Town’s Jubilee celebrations the party went on with The Big Picnic in the Festival marquee and a screening of the River Pageant in the Priory Hall – a memorable day of partying!
The Festival play was aptly chosen following the two royal weddings of the last year: The Merry wives of Windsor. It was a truly excellent production and all credit goes to the Shropshire Drama Group who at short notice on the Thursday had to move the play into Church.
Secrets and Inspirations was a high light of the Festival with Gabrielle Drake, John Challis, Christopher Good, Colin Prockter and Janet Wantling reading short pieces of poetry, short stories and music from Shropshire based artists. It was a performance of the highest quality and full of wit and entertainment.
The 2014 Festival is now in the planning with a few new faces on the Committee. We welcome Peter Wright and Yvonne Holyoak onto the committee but were sad to say good bye at the AGM to Tom Foxall, Sally Cooper, Gareth Davies, Annabel Croft and our joint Presidents Annabel and Alan Henn. We welcome Roly Trevor Jones as the new Festival President. Roly served on the committee for a number of years and will be a great ambassador for the Festival.
