Welcome to Much Wenlock Festival
Much Wenlock are proud to announce the calendar of events for this year’s ‘Friendly Festival’, to be held from Saturday 7th – Saturday 21st June, 2014.
Throughout the festival fortnight, Much Wenlock will host a range of entertainment that promises to have broad appeal across the community, including family days, theatre, and open air music in beautiful, historic surroundings.
Don’t miss a single moment of the Much Wenlock Friendly Festival.
Following the outstanding job that Pippa Walker did as departing Chairman of the Much Wenlock festival was never going to be an easy task, but it has been helped enormously by her agreement to continue on the committee, which means we do not lose her vast wealth of experience. As a marker for Pippa’s excellent Chairmanship, the festival has recently been granted The Queens Award for Voluntary Service. A well-deserved accolade and testament to the many years that the festival has actively supported local charities.
Having lived in Much Wenlock for 18 years and enjoyed the prolific assortment of local activities, I thought it time to put something back into the community. The festival has a rich local and county heritage that should be maintained and nurtured for the future.
I served on the festival committee for a year, prior to becoming Chairman, and had the valuable opportunity to gain an insight into just what it takes to run such an event. The benefit of having an experienced and dedicated committee is a tremendous asset.
The last several months has been a process of reviewing the 2012 programme and deciding how the 2014 festival should reflect the past yet progress into the future. The first of these decisions is to enhance the successful events and to build new ones into the programme to freshen the overall feel of the festival. With this in mind, the whole festival has been shortened into a two-week event and rebranded as the ‘Friendly Festival’ to portray the inclusive nature of the programme. The objective is to appeal to a wider audience whilst keeping the traditional events intact.
The programme below is not quite the final one but it gives a flavour of what is to come and how the events will be staged. There are two additions, currently still in the planning stage, which are incredibly exciting and will attract family participation - details to be released shortly.
All the ingredients are now in place and if the weather is kind then the 2014 festival should deliver a cracking event for all to enjoy!
The committee is always looking for new ideas, and indeed new people. If you are interested in taking part in the Much Wenlock Friendly Festival, either now or in the future, please do feel free to contact me directly on: 01952 727568 or firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to hearing from you.
